What is a thesis?

Thesis – is a kind of result of student learning, the result of his research activities. A thesis defense is the final stage of study at the university, and the quality of work should reflect the level of knowledge of the graduate and serve as a basis for qualifying. To prepare a good thesis, you need to pay attention to all its structural elements.

The structure of the graduation project

A thesis is the next most complex scientific work of students after the coursework and is written on its basis.

Why write a thesis

The graduation project is a qualifying work of a research character.

Only after a thesis is awarded, do students receive a bachelor, specialist or master degree qualification.

Sometimes thesis protection is replaced by state exams, but teachers believe that a thesis better shows students’ real knowledge and abilities.

The structure of writing a thesis

The structure of the thesis 2019, as before, consists of the mandatory design elements, as well as the substantive parts of the thesis:

  • Title page.
  • The task for the thesis.
  • Review.
  • Abstract / Abstract.
  • Content.
  • List of abbreviations.
  • Introduction
  • Main part.
  • Conclusion
  • List of sources.
  • Applications.
  • Digital media with an electronic version of the thesis.

Elements of the structure of the thesis

The title page is the “face” of the thesis, where the name of the relevant ministry, educational institution, subject of the thesis, the full name of the student and his supervisor is indicated.

The task for the thesis issued by the supervisor. In addition to information about the leader, student and subject, indicate the goal and objectives, as well as deadlines and protection of work.

thesis reviews are internal (written by a teacher from a graduating department) and external (prepared by a teacher from another university or an employee of a specialized organization). They are not hemmed into the work, but are embedded in a separate sheet.

In the annotation indicate general information about the work:

  • the number of pages, figures, tables, applications and sources;
  • the subject and purpose of the work;
  • summary of the study.

The table of contents is a list of all sections of the work with the indication of the pages on which they are located.

In the list of abbreviations, the student deciphers the symbols and the rare abbreviations used in the text of the work.

This element of work has its own structure. It includes:

  • Relevance of the topic.
  • Scientific novelty.
  • Objective.
  • The object and subject of study.
  • Tasks of the thesis.
  • Theoretical and methodological base of work.
  • Hypothesis.
  • Theoretical significance.
  • Practical significance.

Main part

Depending on the theme of the WRC and its type (research or applied), the main part of the structure of the thesis includes several chapters:

  • theoretical;
  • analytical;
  • applied / project.

Sometimes the applied part takes 2-3 sections: practical development, implementation (experiment) and evaluation of the effectiveness of the proposed recommendations.

In the first part, the student reviews already accumulated information on the topic; in the second – analyzes the problem and approaches to its solution; in the third – offers its own solution.

The conclusion summarizes the general conclusions on the work: whether its goal was achieved and whether the research hypothesis was confirmed.

In the list of sources, you must provide a list of books, articles and electronic resources that were used in the preparation.

In the section “Appendices” auxiliary and empirical material is collected: calculations, instructions, drawings, questionnaires, etc.

Behind the inside cover of the thesis cover an envelope is inserted into which a disc with an electronic variant of work is inserte
